Repairing non-Storax Mobile Racking Systems

Repairing non-Storax Mobile Racking Systems

In 2012, we were approached and asked to assist in mechanically repairing a mobile racking system in KZN which was not supplied by Barpro Storage. The system was originally installed in 2002 and after 10 years the entire mobile rack system from bases to racking needed extensive repairs and or replacement. Unfortunately for the client, their original supplier was no longer in operation so Barpro took on the challenge.   Manufacturing of 86 new guidewheel units and 258 side members started in February of 2012. Both the wheel units and side members were sprayed to the  colour of the original system. New guide rails were retrofitted which meant cutting into the existing floor, removing the damaged rail and installing new ones.   The racking superstructure required adjustments to suit the clients changing needs including higher loads and was supplied by Universal. Within 3 months the client’s new system was fully operational. A few years later we were approached to assist another client to repair their mobile racking system, supplied by the same source.   To date both repaired mobile systems have been reported to be fully operational and in perfectly good condition. Should you need any repairs done to your mobile racking system, Storax or otherwise – Please give us a call.   You can contact Mike Vermeulen by email mike@barpro.co.za or 021 552 9190 for more information. Project Management of the Vision Meats New Cold Store

In October 2016, Rack Pro & Barpro was called to Vision Meat in Klerksdorp to build a freezer warehouse on their premises. It was discovered that a portion of their erf was not being utilized & that this space would be ideal for the required freezer space needed for storing their stock. Vaughn Jensen from Rack Pro took on the task of project managing the whole project end-to end, including aspects such as design of the building, through to the actual hand-over of the freezer. The design of the building was quite challenging because of the shape of the erf. The space available for building was triangular and we attempted to maximise the space available to accommodate +/- 1000 pallet positions. Vaughn & the design team from Barpro, managed to get a design of building with load / off-load area & Storax mobile racking in the freezer to accommodate 1020 pallet locations. This concept was presented to client and with a few modifications the plans were submitted to council for approval. Plans were finally approved in February 2017 & Rack Pro were given “the green light” to start building. Tenders were then sent to contractors for each portion of the project & final approval from client to respective contractors was awarded. Once finance was in place, we managed to start “turning soil” in August 2017. The building process came with it’s own challenges, from underground tree stumps in foundations which needed to be removed & ground re-stabilized, to abnormal rain out of their normal rainy season. This caused some delays on project, however Vaughn kept a tight schedule to ensure the catch up of lost time that occurred. Being based on site throughout duration of the project he managed to keep a ‘finger on the pulse’ & pushed contractors to complete their portion on time. This caused multiple contractors to work together on site, all slotted behind each other. Barpro, with their busy installation schedule, managed to do their portion of this project, with their dedicated installers over 2 weekends, to catch up time on this project. Rack Pro then installed their highest quality imported racking system on Barpro’s mobile bases, to give the client a world class installation. Once again, through design teams from both Rack Pro & Barpro, their systems integrated “like a glove” ensuring that all corresponding holes & fixings between the systems fitted to the mm. Vision Meat wanted a “green footprint” so it was decided to install CO2 refrigeration unit, which uses natural gas & lower power usage once running under optimal temperature. This high pressure system was installed by local installers within 2 weeks to get the freezer “up & running”. Further to this, LED lighting with aisle switching was installed to reduce power usage and future planning is to install solar power energy for this building. Freezer & complete project was handed over to Vision Meat on 11th December 2017 & the freezer already reached full capacity by beginning January 2018. This was a great project working in collaboration between Rack Pro, appointed contractors and Barpro to give Vision Meat a fully operational freezer in just 4 months from start of building to hand-over. Looking forward to the next project together. New Pongola Cold Storage facility, Pongola cold store

New Pongola Cold Storage Facility

Being in the very North of Kwa-Zulu Natal and right on the Swazi border, one can argue that Pongola is closer to Johannesburg than it is to Durban. But, with over 50km2 of subtropical fruit orchards and sugar cane, the Pongola valley is something of a hidden gem, supplied by the Pongolapoort dam, the only place in South Africa where tiger fish can be caught. Pongola’s development was boosted by RA Rouillard, a Mauritian who arrived in the area to mine gold in 1909, and, sensing the agricultural potential, stayed to farm.   Now a bustling town, Pongola has its own cold store owned and managed by Klasie Postma. When the existing freezer rooms ran out of space he decided to partially demolish the neighboring premises and build a new store with Storax mobile racking for 500 pallets in an area of 388m2 at minus 25 degrees C. Assisted by the Durban based engineering and project managing company DDRA, the project took six months to complete with the official opening which took place on place 18th November 2017.     Klasie had this to say about his store and mobile racking system “I want to commend Barpro Storage for their professional and helpful staff, from sales to the installation team, for the manner they managed this project. Being out in the remote country planning, logistics and installation must be orchestrated perfectly. The warehouse is in operation now, just in time for the busy season and is making our life a lot easier than before. Thank you James and your team for a good job done.”   Barpro Storage wishes Klasie, his General Manager, Nic Sullivan and warehouse manager, Ben Nel everything of the best.   30 Klasie Havenga Street, Pongola South Africa Tel: 034 413 2813 sales@pongolacold.co.za Store more with Storax – Contact us to enquire [gravityform id=”10″ title=”true” description=”true”]   Read more: How does STORAX Mobile Racking work?
