Recently Ceres Fruit Growers had their Storax mobiles inspected. The repair costs were higher than expected and prompted a rethink by the maintenance department. Deon Schickerling and David van Huffel started checking the mobiles on a regular basis using the Storax manual and making sure that the forklift drivers were following procedures. In a follow up inspection they found that repair costs fell by 80% illustrating how looking after your mobiles pays hands down, both in terms of repairs and lower down time. Scheduled Maintenance is the key

One of Eskom’s reasons for continued load shedding in the first half of 2015 is to remove 5000MW of generating capacity for long overdue maintenance. Because the electricity grid has been running close to capacity for some years, this maintenance has not been done resulting in the current high levels of unplanned power station outages. This is just another example of what happens when plant and equipment is not regularly maintained. At first savings are made as repair budgets are underspent, but after a year or so, unplanned down time and major repair projects turn out to be far more expensive than if maintenance had been scheduled on a regular basis. As Storax mobiles are no different from any other plant and equipment, we encourage all clients to seriously look at a Service Level Agreement for regular inspections of their Storax systems. On the bright side, Storax mobiles are not putting added strain on the grid as the power required to move two 360ton Storax bases is about the same as that required to boil a domestic kettle. Made from hard, tough wood and finished in our workshops, each bumper weighs around 75kgs and provides protection to guide wheel units at the front of the mobile bases. Easy to fit, they provide a simple solution to prevent damaged wheel units and control boxes. They are designed to protect the front wheel units against forklift and reach truck impact and are coated with a varnish or a stained coating. They also give a smart finished look to the Storax Mobile Racking System. Occasionally cracks appear in the bumper before any type of impact has occurred. This is normal as the wood which has moisture in it, continues to dry out, even in a cold room. To combat the effects of cracking, two cuts are made on the reverse side of the bumper to relieve the stresses in the wood, resulting in minimal cracking. So, should the bumpers in your store develop cracks before any impact occurs this would be considered normal.
