The negative aspects of using Storax gangways as storage areas

Critical to the design of any Storax system is the access gangway and moving aisles as these allow access to every pallet location.  When all the pallet locations are full, the question arises as to where additional stock can be stored.  As using the moving aisles for storage is clearly non-productive, there is a strong temptation to block stack pallets on the panel side of the gangway while leaving just enough space for reach trucks to access the moving aisles. While this practice  solves the immediate problem, it often has negative repercussions, the most common being significant damage to the front guide wheel units of the Storax bases.  The Storax control boxes are also at risk as are the insulated panels behind the block stacked product.  Worse still, slightly “warm” block stacked  incoming product is unstable as the boxes expand slightly on refreezing  which can cause the stacked product to collapse onto the front of the mobile bases.  As the bases are not fixed to the ground they can be shunted backward through the rear wall of the freezer store. One way of protecting the Storax bases is to retro fit Barpro’s popular wooden bumpers as these protect not just the wheel units but the control boxes as well.  Continuous block stacking in gangways however is a good indication that a freezer store expansion is required.                     ORDER YOUR BUMPERS TODAY [gravityform id=”5″ title=”true” description=”true”]

Scheduled Maintenance is the key

One of Eskom’s reasons for continued load shedding in the first half of 2015 is to remove 5000MW of generating capacity for long overdue maintenance. Because the electricity grid has been running close to capacity for some years, this maintenance has not been done resulting in the current high levels of unplanned power station outages. This is just another example of what happens when plant and equipment is not regularly maintained. At first savings are made as repair budgets are underspent, but after a year or so, unplanned down time and major repair projects turn out to be far more expensive than if maintenance had been scheduled on a regular basis. As Storax mobiles are no different from any other plant and equipment, we encourage all clients to seriously look at a Service Level Agreement for regular inspections of their Storax systems. On the bright side, Storax mobiles are not putting added strain on the grid as the power required to move two 360ton Storax bases is about the same as that required to boil a domestic kettle. Mobile installation at Afgri Poultry, Delmas

We have recently completed an installation for Afgri Poultry where we supplied a Storax Mobile System which stores 2,108 pallets of frozen poultry in Delmas. When chatting with Plant Engineer, Kobus Venter we learnt that he is very happy with the overall use of the system, as well as Barpro Storage’s service. To mention a few quotes, Kobus had the following to say: “Barpro has a good reaction time when problems appear, and there are often follow ups on enquiries made regarding parts. What I can really compliment Barpro on is the fact that your directors get involved on ground level. Our staff have the confidence to approach them with any question they may have; and the directors would then assist or explain who the correct person would be to assist with the query. It has been an absolute pleasure working with Barpro.”
