The competition is open to operators of ALL cold stores with a storage capacity exceeding 500 pallets in Southern African. The store could be an in house cold store or a public store, chill store, fruit store, or third party distribution centre.
Entrants need to be the age of 35 years or younger (born before 1981)
The competition is to select the region’s best young individual to compete in the USA against the best in Australia and the USA.
The winner will travel to the IARW Conference in the USA in April 2017, all expenses paid.
Entrants for the 2016 SARDA Tony Lewis Cold Store Award should match the following criteria:
- Currently employed in a cold or freezer store in Africa
- Born in 1981 or before (age of 35 years or younger)
- Have worked as an operator of a cold store for more than 3 years
- Have a broad knowledge of the African cold storage industry
- Cold store where currently employed has a pallet storage capacity of 500 pallets or more
- Have a good understanding of the environmental impact (carbon footprint) of the cold store where presently employed.
Initially each entrant will be judged on the basis of a written application. Finalists will travel to Cape Town (all expenses paid) for the final judging. The winner will attend the 2017 Global Cold Chain Alliance convention in Los Angeles in April 2017 (all expenses paid) and will make a presentation to the 700+ delegates
