OBJECTIVE

To provide storage solution for new ambient warehouse situated in same area as the existing store that has fixed racking system

Barpro Storage commissioned a mobile racking installation. The newly built warehouse of National Edging in Cape Town.

National Edging provides technical service and has distribution centers that cover seven locations in South Africa and has an export division in Nairobi, Kenya. They have developed over 250 assorted designs in ABS, PVC, Melamine, Veneer Edge banding, and 3D Thermoplastic Foils, available in a variety of thicknesses and widths. National Edging stocks the largest range of Edge banding, PVAc, Flat Lamination, Foam Bonding, PU Dispersion, and PUR adhesives in the country. As such, National Edging has a large number of SKUs all of which need to be immediately accessible.

Mobile racking has proven to be the preferred choice of many companies as it elevates the business efficiency in terms of:

  • minimizing the amount of land needed for a warehouse;
  • minimizing the size of an investment in a new warehouse project;
  • consolidating all storage into one warehouse;
  • releasing warehouse storage capacity without extending the building;
  • improve accessibility to goods without sacrificing storage capacity &
  • offers a real alternative to warehouse relocation.

First the special rails we levelled and then the floor is poured. Barpro’s electrically powered bases were installed on the rails and support the back-to-back fixed racking.

National Edging’s mobile bases move either at the touch of a button or via remote control. The racking superstructure that has been mounted onto the mobile base was supplied and installed by Dexion Storage Solutions, a well-known Cape Town rack supplier.

The Solution:

Phase 1:

The system allows for a total storage capacity of 378 pallets of which 216 are on mobile racks and 162 pallets on fixed racking. Phase 1 is at three pallet height of 1550 mm.

Phase 2:

In this phase the system designed has a capacity of 1266 pallets on additional mobiles.
