What caused the coldstore floor to lift ?

It is commonly known in the cold store industry that if ice forms under a cold store it can push up the floor. This is a problem which has caused havoc in South African freezers and even chill stores. Peter Saunders, a Namibian racking expert who runs Store Tech in Windhoek, told me of a high security warehouse where the floor rose, only this time it was caused by a hot spring!

It had been missed during construction and the problem was discovered when the one ton safe door wouldn’t close.  Under a freezer store the hot spring might have had a beneficial effect!
