Mid 2023, Khold in Bayhead, Durban, embarked on adding additional pallet positions within their facility, without the hassle of moving or renting additional premises. They decided to convert two of their existing freezers which were equipped with static racking into mobile racking as cost effectively as possible.
Barpro Storage assisted Khold by securing a secondhand racking system complete with mobile bases from a cold store in Cape Town , allowing the project to be fast tracked.
Once bought, the racking and mobiles were dismantled and transported to Durban. The materials were stored at Khold’s facility while the ground works were prepared. Barpro Storage sourced the rails out of local stock which allowed for quick installation.
Once the concrete was cured the bases and electrical components were installed.
The mobiles use individual control. The first room was handed over in April 2024 and the second room in May. Both rooms have a current capacity of 1563 pallets each and are now operational.
