WHAT IS STORAX RANGER SHUTTLE
STORAX Ranger is a highly adaptable alternative to mobile racking that uses an automated pallet shuttle within a high-density racking system to maximise storage capacity within a given volume. It’s a good option for new or retrofit installations in warehouses and cold-stores where SKUs are limited, or consignment batching is a common requirement.
The Ranger eliminates the need for access aisles, aside from major service gangways, which eradicates drive-through damage and enables compact, multi-lane storage blocks of almost any depth and height. It can handle pallet loads of nearly any size, up to 2000kg in mass.
How does STORAX Ranger work?
STORAX Ranger is a battery-powered mobile platform, or shuttle, that is placed into the relevant racking lane before being loaded with its first pallet. It then lifts and transports the pallet load back through the racking to the furthest available storage position, before returning to collect the next load. Extracting pallets works the same way, but in reverse.
Control of the Ranger shuttle can be manual, but is more often done via remote control using a hand-held or truck-mounted RF (radio frequency) transmitter or centralised WiFi. The system is fast and efficient – shuttles move at nearly 1 metre per second in the lanes – and whilst not in use, shuttles can be programmed to independently re-arrange pallets for optimal FILO (first in, last out) or FIFO (first in, first out) flows.
The Ranger system is available with various levels of intelligence and automation, up to and including RFID (radio frequency identification) tagging and full, PC-based WMS (warehouse management system) software.
Safety and Standards
The STORAX Ranger system is manufactured in Europe from quality materials and components, and complies with all relevant FEM and EN codes, and H&S standards.
Hundreds of Rangers have been safely operating across Europe since their release to market in 2005.
- High capacity: maximises storage space by eliminating access aisle requirements
- Quick: shuttle speeds of almost 1 metre per second make for fast, efficient storage and retrieval
- Retrofit-friendly: ideal for new and existing warehouses and cold stores
- Adaptable: works within most constraints
- FILO / FIFO capable: pallets can be arranged for “first in, last out” OR “first in, first out” flows
